I recently finished reading and listening to this novel which in some ways makes me identify with some events in my life. I found chapters XVIII and CXIII particularly interesting.
I recommend reading it to anyone who was positively surprised by watching the 1998 television miniseries starring Gérard Depardieu. The book, as often happens, contains some differences from the miniseries and in the ending there is a big difference that I still found pleasant.
