Beware of Commissions for Those Who Sell Gold Online!
There are gold sellers who seem to have come out of a book on neuro-linguistic programming. You can find them on YouTube, at discussion events and in a thousand other places. They don’t just sell gold: they sell redemption, awareness, revealed truths and often a few bars or coins for the price of a piece of jewelry.
The problem? Profit margins (the commissions charged to customers). These people are able to easily inflate the price of investment gold with commissions that go well beyond the physiological. While a healthy purchase can involve a limited premium, a few percentage points on the spot value of gold, they happily navigate between 100% and 200% more than what would be reasonable. All justified by a narrative that, it must be said, has a certain charm… if you like to be ripped off in style.
Because in the end they sell a story, or rather a fable where the protagonist has stopped believing in the system, maybe even repented of his sins as a banker or financial advisor and now, purified by the flame of spiritual awakening, teaches us how to save ourselves with gold. A bit of a guru, a bit of a repentant intermediary and a bit of an influencer… and off they go, the broadcast with the suggestive background, the books on the New World Order in the foreground or even a golden aura shot out by a spotlight.
Now, if you are looking for investment gold, one thing you should remember: you are not interested in emotional packaging but you are interested in paying as little as possible on the price per gram of fine gold. It’s simple: the more margin you give the seller, the less value you keep. Everything else is smoke and mirrors.
So ignore the sermons and apocalyptic visions where only those who have a bullion will save their soul or that of others. Buy from those who make you clearly see the difference between the spot price and the selling price. And if that difference tends to resemble a mortgage, forget it.
